YAG LASER PROCEDURE
YAG Laser Procedure
At some point after receiving cataract surgery, you may notice that your vision is not completely clear. One common occurrence is an opacified posterior capsule, a clouding of the membrane behind the intraocular lens inside the eye. This can develop gradually over time, and can cause blurring of vision. The procedure to treat this is called YAG laser capsulotomy. In our experience, approximately 25% of cataract surgery patients will require YAG capsulotomy at some point months or years after the initial cataract procedure. It is a safe, fast and easy procedure which is conveniently performed at our office.
What to Expect
Your doctor will first use drops to dilate the pupil, and a contact lens instrument will be placed on the eye to help us focus for the procedure. Then, the laser will make an opening in the cloudy membrane behind the lens to let light clearly pass through it. This outpatient procedure is painless and takes just minutes to perform. Most patients will have instant improvement in their vision while others will notice a gradual improvement over several days.
How to Prepare
No preparation is necessary, and patients may resume normal activities immediately.
