Laser assisted cataract surgery, a newer technique, utilizes a combination of laser, ultrasound, and a computerized map of the eye to remove the cataract under the guidance of the surgeon. In contrast, standard cataract surgery uses scalpels, needles, and blades along with the traditional ultrasound. The customized measurements, unique to each patient, help provide a better, more individualized outcome, and can also improve quality of vision by correcting small amounts of astigmatism.
We utilize the LenSx laser, which provides a more technologically advanced option for our cataract patients. With access to the LenSx laser since 2013, Pollack Eye Care is one of the first practices in Western New York to offer this option. With thousands of cases performed, the majority of our surgery patients now choose laser assisted cataract surgery, and enjoy the benefits of this advanced technique.
The LenSx laser can be used in combination with advanced technology intraocular lenses to make cataract surgery patients less dependent on glasses or contact lenses!
